When Buffy is replaced by a cute british boy

Ok so i have started watching this new british drama/action/fantasy show called Demons, and as i have now watched two episodes i think that is enough to judge how this show is going to pan out in the series.

So its a vamp/demon hunter show. So it's a monster of the week format.

SO the story line is that a teenage boy (who is quite cute, but not as hot as the guy out of legend of the Seeker) is a regular teenage boy until his godfather shows up. His Godfather reveals to him that he is last remaining descendant of the Van Helsing line and it his duty to hunt the Demons, who in this show are referred to as Freaks. I'm not entirely sure why the Van Helsing line is located in England... but i'm just going to ignore that fact for the moment.
Oh and he has to hide what he's doing from his Mother... as she doesn't know, and she didn't know about her Husband doing it either.
There is also the love interest, who is a childhood friend and the main denies any feelings, that gets caught up in his escapades.
The Blind empath who can play amazing piano and is very knowledgable who is obviously going to fall in love with the main guy as well, with much scraging between the two women to ensue.
So its a pretty standard formula there. it really does sound very similar to Buffy, just British.

Acting wise its not very good. The Godfather has this awful american accent and so unconvincing. A lot of his lines are delivered wrong and sound very awkward. Actually all across the board i'm not that impressed with the acting. THis being said they are new characters so it may take another couple of episodes for them to settle into the roles. I'll have to wait and see.

Special effects wise its odd. The demons are either CG's in or done up in makeup... but the ones done up in make up look really dumb. Not sure what's going on there. Once again we'll wait and see if they get any better with the art direction of the series.

I think what erks me about it is the lack of backstory in the scripting. They write plot points in, but then it gets confusing because they says things about it and because they havnt fully explained its story. Point being the Priest that they go to for help in the second episode. apparently he's dead, but its hard to tell cause when the topic is bought up the anwser is vague as to wether he is or not.

All of this being said i'll probably still watch it. Its dumb entertainment really. something to watch when i don't need to think. I'm interested to see how it pans out. If they take into a more story driven narrative or if they keep it as monster of the week (more than liely the latter i'm thinking)
While the resemblance to Buffy is pretty apparent I don't think it will end up being a clone of the show. I am waiting for them to introduce some long lost cousin, who is inevitably better at Hunting than the main character, and will make him reconsider his need to hunt Demons. Maybe he will have some random religious related name *cough*faith*cough*

What year is to bring

So it's the start of a new year. And I've had a think about what i hope to achieve this year.

I'm not one for making resolutions, mainly because I think my life doesn't need to be improved as such, but there are some goals I want to reach.

I want to complete my planned trip to UK in August.

I want to get a better job, hopefully in the federal public service.

I want to gain my car licence so as to make me more self sufficient.

Move out of home, with a strong possibility of moving to Melbourne.

These four main goals I believe are very achievable and if i do achieve them this year I will be pleased with my progress

Like a sponge squeezed of all water... part 2

So the next day we decided to head out to Wet and Wild, or as Keir likes to call it- Moist and Merry.

This was not as enjoyable as we thought it would be.

We arrived around midday and got into the grounds all safely and stuff. There were people everywhere, this should have tipped us off immediatly.

So we line up to go on one of the basic waterslides not realising that it would take us over 30mins just to slie down a hot tube at 10k/m per hour... quite anticlimatic.

Next we decided to head to the wave pool for abit... which didnt have any waves in it. It wasnt untill after we had gotten out of the pool after a while that we found out the pool worked in 10 minute cycles.

So we wondered round for a bit.. seeing that all of the rides and slides had massive line ups for them, and we really couldnt be bothered to wait, so we went and got some lunch and left.

This park probably would have been more enjoyable on a less busy day, but due to it being a time when every young family was out to sit under an umbrella while there child was half drowning in a puddle of urine, sweat and water, it was just too full of people for us to bother sticking around.

that night being NYE we headed back to Brisbane and got some takeout from a excellent little indian place then headed back to Keirs for a bit. From there we headed out to a house party in this beautiful house that fronted the river. From the house we could walk down a short slope with a path lit by candles and bush rising around us onto a private pontoon on the Brisbane river... it really was beautiful and almost breathtaking.

So we did new years in style. Which was nice instead of my usual NYE tradition, which is me asleep before the year even changes over.

Today we chilled out. Nick and i went to see Slumdog millionaire which was touchign film about a boy and his life growing up as a pauper in Mumbai and beyond and how he could win the big load on Who want to be a millionaire.

All this time i have been having multiple showers just to watch the layers upon layers of sweat that seem to be appearing on my skin.... by the end of this i had better have the most beautiful skin in the world.. or else.

like a sponge squeezed of all water

Well that's how i'm feeling at the moment.
I'm sitting on a leather couch and every time i move i have to peel my back off the material cause it's been glued on with sweat.

Not the prettiest picture to describe when talking about Brisbane, but its what i'm feeling.

So to bring you up to date- I'm in Brisbane. Nick and I flew up here in Monday to come stay with a friend- Keir, for a week. It was cheap, it was easy and i had never been here before. So I thought I'd check it out.

We flew up with Qantas, which was all fine and dandy, the flight was relativley comfortable, although the lady sitting next to me kept blabbing about these eggs she had in her carry on luggage, who takes that sort of thing on a plane?

They must have been some rare valuable tyoe of eggs or something cause it just doesnt make sense in my head!

Keir picked us up from the airport and we drove back to his place where we settled in then decided to catch the sea cat thingy into the city to have a quick look around cause it was getting on in the afternoon. I bought some cute shorts which im quite happy witha s they were down from $100 to $40.

so by this time i was feeling a bit hot... and sweaty.... and sweaty some more.

So we headed back to his house, i whipped up some dinner and then we started to watch Casino Royale.... where i promptly fell asleep at almost exactly the same spot i fell asleep last time i watched it.... Just before James goes into the casino... so i have yet to see past that point.

The next day we decided it would be a good time to use the christmas present i gave nick- which was tickets to WB movie world and wet and wild. So we decided to hit movie world. We picked a good day cause while there was a small crowd we didnt have to wait for too long to get on any of the rides. It was heaps of fun. I've only ever been to a theme park 2 times before, both being Wonderland in Sydney before it closed down. The first time i was in my early teens, and i couldn't get up the courage to go on the Space probe, but somehow managed to get on the demon... and screamed my lungs out the whole way. The next time i went on the space probe but refused to go on the demon.... i didnt want to go through tat again.

Anyways... so the first ride we decided to go on was Superman Escape, which is a really fast roller coaster- 4 positive G-forces and one negative. I was slightly apprehensive at first but once we got into it was realyl enjoying the short 30 second ride.
So we went over to the batman area, and did the space shot, which was pretty fun. the we did the batman ride 2, which was kinda lame with all the set up it went through, and when we go on the simul-coaster it gave me a headache more than anything else. So we decided to head over to leathal weapon, which was awesome fun. loved that one. from there we went to the wild west ride... we lined and got in out little boat thingy.. went through the first part of the ride until we got to the top of the ride, just before you do the big drop.
And we sit there, literally for about 5 mins. We're starting to get a bit worried by this stage. Then we hear a dreaded voice, telling us that the ride has broken and been temporarily shut down, but low and behold it launches us anyway!
We landed in a big pile up at the end as someone had hit their head or something and probably split it open..we sat there for about 5 mins waiting till we could get out of the craft.

Anyways, so we headed back and nick and Keir went on the lethal weapon again, i was feeling a bit hot by this stage and needed some air so i decided to sit it out. I did watch them go on the ride though, and it was amusing to hear nicks loud cowboy yell as he was twirled about on the ride.

After this we decided to head home for the day, as we were all a bit hot and bothered.
